History

Hope CDA originated out of the historic flood in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in June, 2008. Serve The City, a coalition of about 60 churches and nonprofits in the Cedar Rapids area, created a recovery fund to help displaced people get back into their homes. In 2010, Serve The City determined there was an ongoing need for housing assistance and had a vision to combine this with a construction jobs training program for those with employment barriers. Serve The City organized Hope CDA as a separate entity in 2010 and Hope CDA continues to be a Serve The City partner organization. Hope CDA has since participated in Cedar Rapids’ Rebuilding Ownership Opportunities Together (ROOTs)  program through two local contractors. Hope CDA's construction jobs training program began in September 2015.
